Rodgers wants to lure Sigurdsson to Anfield

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed his intention to make Gylfi Sigurdsson his first Liverpool signing after the midfielder's move to Swansea City stalled.
Sigurdsson was heading to the Liberty Stadium prior to Rodgers's appointment at Anfield, but the change in circumstances appears to have scuppered the deal. A pounds 6.8?million fee was agreed between Swansea and Hoffenheim while Rodgers was still in charge, and personal terms were also negotiated with the 22 year-old.
But now the Northern Irishman has moved to Merseyside, Sigurdsson is destined to follow.
While Rodgers fully respects Swansea's wish to conclude a deal, he says he feels compelled to pursue a player whose career has flourished under his charge.
"If he comes onto the market, I have to be interested," explained Rodgers. "His initial chat has to be with Swansea, because he had a good period there.
"I said when I had the chat with the chairman (Huw Jenkins) the other day, when I told him I was going to go to Liverpool, that Gylfi came to Swansea because I was there as manager.
"I said to Huw if I speak to the kid I'll tell him to make sure he certainly comes down and speaks to the new Swansea manager, whoever that is, and that if he's still not comfortable with that, he's in the marketplace then - and then I have to look at him."
Rodgers, meanwhile, has paid tribute to the roles his father and grandfather played in him becoming Liverpool manager.
"He was my hero. He'd be very proud," said Rodgers of his father, who died last year. "Both my mum and dad passed away in a short period of time and I'm representing them.
"My grandfather was a Liverpool supporter. That's where it started for me. I was born in 1973 and the late 70s I sat down with both him and my father. That was the emotional attachment to be here as well as the footballing challenge. They loved great football. My dad was a big lover of Johan Cruyff so that's where one of my influences came from.
"My biggest influence were my parents. I've learnt from many people - good and bad - but my parents taught me the value of working hard. It's an obligation to work hard, not a choice.
"My father brought me up that way and I was the one that always created rather than waited. I went out there and travelled to Spain, Holland and Germany to travel right the way through. It's about having the courage and bravery to expose yourself to that."
Rodgers makes no attempt to hide how he wants Liverpool to play, or what formation he intends to impose. His philosophy appears to be if he can make good players fit the system, opponents will know what's coming but won't get enough of the ball to undermine it.
"They say the best football coaches and managers are the best thieves so you look to pick up bits and pieces from everyone," he said. "Brendan Rodgers might not sound as good as someone from Italy or Spain. British managers have often been overlooked as not being impressive. I'm very proud that people here can see my vision, philosophy and work. I know Liverpool spoke to a number of European coaches but they went with an Irishman.
"What is new about my appointment is a British manager getting a job like this. When I started in management I wanted to show that British managers can get teams to play the way continental teams do, and that we have players who can adapt to that. My style is a fusion.
"My philosophy is simple - I'm here to educate. I'm not here to train. You train dogs, you don't train players. Working with Jose Mourinho gave me great confidence. He saw something in me, and being at Chelsea gave me the opportunity to work with big players. It was a great experience, because I was there for the biggest year in Chelsea's history.
"Jose and I keep in contact on a weekly basis, and I've got great respect for him. But I'm very much my own man."

Samsung Galaxy S3 launched in India at Rs 43,180

Korean handset giant Samsung on Thursday said it expects to capture 60 per cent share of the Indian smartphone market this year on the back of a slew of new devices, including its latest Galaxy SIII.
"According to third party data, we have over 46 per cent share in the Indian smartphone market. We are confident of increasing this to 60 per cent this year," Samsung India Head (Mobile and IT) Ranjit Yadav told reporters here. The Indian smartphone market is pegged to grow to about 18 million units in 2012, he added.

In the first four months of this year, the company has announced the launch of 10 new mobile handsets, including its new dual-sim smartphones like Galaxy Y Duos and Galaxy Y Pro Duos, taking the basket to 19 in the price range of between Rs 7,830 and Rs 38,290.
To consolidate its position in India, the company today launched its latest Galaxy SIII handset, priced at Rs 43,180. Unveiled initially in London, the handset will be available for sale in India from tomorrow.

"India, one of the world's largest mobile market, is indeed very important to us as it contributes substantial portion of our global sales. We see India as one of key growth markets 2012 going forward, especially in smartphone segment where we have observed overwhelming growth in last couple of quarters," he said.
The much-awaited Galaxy S-III smartphone, powered by Android operating system 4.0, is touted as a strong competitor to the yet-to be launched iPhone 5 (expected to be launched later this year).
Samsung recently dethroned long-time leader Nokia, snatching the numero uno position from the Finnish company in the first quarter of 2012 with 86.6 million units global shipment, as per research firm Gartner. It also outshone Apple with sales of 38 million units worldwide, the research firm had said.
Samsung Galaxy S-III comes with a 4.8-inch screen, bigger than its highly successful predecessor Galaxy S-II.
According to reports, the new smartphone had recorded the highest pre bookings orders to the tune of nine million after it was unveiled earlier this month in London.

The phone packs a bunch of features like 'Smart stay', in which the device recognises when you are looking at the phone and maintains a bright display for continued viewing pleasure.
The Galaxy S III also introduces 'Pop up play' feature, which allows user to watch HD videos on the phone while sending an email or text simultaneously.
The phone also boasts of an eight-megapixel camera along with a zero-lag shutter speed, which allows users capture moving objects without delay. It also comes with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
Smartphones are expected to constitute about 30 per cent to the company's total mobile and IT division revenues, up from last year's 15 per cent contribution.

Opera Mini 7 Browser Comes to Basic Phones

Your feature phone is about to get a little smarter, and more social.
Opera Software today released its Opera Mini 7 mobile Web browser for basic phones and Blackberry, which makes it quicker and easier to stay connected with your social networks. The browser comes with a new feature called "Smart Page," which is a one-page summary of all the news from your Facebook and Twitter feeds.
In addition to showing your friends' status updates and tweets, Smart Page will offer up suggestions for news sites to follow, and let you add feeds of sites you browse to most often. This feature will ultimately save you the hassle of manually typing Web addresses into your mobile keyboard.
"I've spent hours typing Web addresses on my mobile phone, but now there's a super smart way to get most of your content at a glance," Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software, said in a statement. "With Smart Page, you just open the browser, and the content is right beside your Speed Dial shortcuts in the start screen for you to skim through — super practical, super time-saving and super smart."
The browser also provides access to full websites, even if you don't have a smartphone. Opera promises that Mini 7 is better than the stock browser on your phone, making it easier to navigate the Web.
Opera Mini 7 is available as a free download for Java-compatible (J2ME), Nokia S60, and Blackberry devices at m.opera.com.
Opera's increased focus on social integration comes as the Norwegian browser maker is reportedly in talks to be acquired by Facebook. The social network is apparently looking to buy Opera to expand into the browser space, where it would face competition from Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple, and Yahoo.
Some industry experts are saying Opera is a perfect match for Facebook, but at least one analyst thinks such an acquisition would not be a smart move for the social network. Both Facebook and Opera have declined to comment about the rumored acquisition talks.

Windows 8 Release Preview on Samsung Tablet and ThinkPad ...

Windows 8 manages to be everything a Microsoft OS has never been: whimsical, fun, friendly, lightweight and fresh. Thanks to the Metro UI that takes its design cues from Windows Phone, Windows for desktops, laptops and tablets as gone all touchy on us. And that's the sticking point for the millions of folks who have non-touch enabled computers. Interacting with Metro on a touch screen is pure joy and conjures up the Microsoft Surface experience, but it can be a bit odd when you're using a mouse or trackpad.

Yes, it is completely possible to use Metro without a touch screen thanks to keyboard shortcuts and hotspots in the corners, but I suspect many of you will use the lower left tile that takes you to the standard desktop mode immediately. With Windows 8 Release Candidate, the follow up to Consumer Preview, the familiar Start Menu is still MIA (third party utilities can replicate it) but Aero is here, even though Microsoft has said they're going to axe it for the final release (they feel it looks dated since window chrome is no longer trendy).

Microsoft thinks that all PCs will eventually have touch screens: from all in ones to laptops to tablets. Windows 8 runs on tablets with Intel and AMD CPUs and Windows 8 RT will run on ARM-based tablets (Android tablets use ARM family CPUs). Microsoft is probably right, and they're betting on it by introducing Metro now.

For our video review, we test out Windows 8 Release Preview on a Samsung Series 7 Slate and the Lenovo ThinkPad X230 notebook so you can see the difference in interactions with these two form factors. The Samsung Slate runs on an Intel Core i5 ULV CPU and it ships with Windows 7 (it's been a platform standard for Windows 8 developers though). The ThinkPad is Lenovo's new Ivy Bridge Core i5 12.5" notebook. Both have 1366 x 768 displays, but only the Samsung has a touchscreen.

What's new in Win 8 Release Preview? Surprisingly little has changed from the Consumer Preview we covered a few months back. The Microsoft Store is more full featured with a healthy selection of Metro compatible apps, and it now remembers apps you've downloaded/purchased. There's multiple monitor support, lots of new drivers so it's easier to install and get things working right away. Microsoft has added a thumb keyboard in addition to the standard on-screen keyboard.

It's incredibly fast and it boots quickly too. Yes, you can install MS Office, Adobe Photoshop and your favorite games. Those apps will run in desktop mode, unlike Metro apps that run in Metro. Speaking of Metro apps, Microsoft has added a few more for things like sports and travel, and they're magazine-like and gorgeous. IE in Metro now supports Flash, but only for a limited subset of Flash content: YouTube videos work but Flash adds do not. If you run IE from the desktop, you get full IE and full Adobe Flash as well as any other plugins you've installed. It's rather confusing to have 2 versions of Internet Explorer.

Messi inspires as Argentina down Ecuador 4-0

Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria all scored in the victory as the home side scored three goals in a devastating 11 minute period in the first half that settled the outcome.

Messi, replicating his Barcelona form more and more with each match for his country, was brilliant and may well have finally won over the crowd at the Monumental in Buenos Aires.
"We have to be a solid team, structured in defence and accompany Lionel so he can express himself to the full," coach Alejandro Sabella told the post-match news conference.
Argentina lead the South American group with 10 points from five matches, one more point than Chile, who beat Bolivia 2-0 in La Paz, and two ahead of Uruguay and Venezuela who drew 1-1 in Montevideo.
However, Argentina can be overtaken next weekend when they have a bye which they will spend playing arch-rivals and 2014 World Cup hosts Brazil in a friendly in the United States.
Copa America holders Uruguay failed to end their Venezuela jinx, going a fifth World Cup qualifier in succession without beating the region's former whipping boys.
Diego Forlan put Uruguay ahead at the Centenario when he extended his national scoring record to 33 in the 39th minute.
But, with little more than five minutes left, a header by Venezuela striker Jose Salomon Rondon was helped into his own net by defender Diego Godin.
"Rondon hits it and it hits me," Godin told reporters who asked him whether he thought it was an own goal, as initially given by the South American Football Confederation.
"None of us are pleased with what we showed," Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez told reporters speaking for the players and his staff.
HIGH WIN
Chile served notice they are still a force despite initial problems that included coach Claudio Borghi suspending a quintet of players for breaking a curfew before a qualifier against Uruguay last November.
Borghi's side notched up a third win as Chile made it three successive qualifying victories in the thin air of La Paz, absorbing pressure and hitting Bolivia on the break.
Forward Charles Aranguiz put Chile ahead in first-half added time and Bolivia's hopes took a further dive when defender Luis Gutierrez was sent off early in the second half for a foul on Alexis Sanchez.
Bolivia's coach Gustavo Quinteros, a member of the country's last team to go to the finals in 1994, was also sent to the stands for protesting.
Midfielder Arturo Vidal, the only one of the five players disciplined in November to be pardoned and have his suspension reduced, made sure of the points with a second goal seven minutes from time netting a ball that came back off the post.
Bolivia, bottom of the group with one point from five matches, paid for their poor finishing when they dominated early on in both halves.
Peru, one from bottom with three points and looking to end a 32-year wait for a place in the finals, host Colombia in Lima on Sunday

Injury woes for England,Cahill in too.!

England defender Gary Cahill had an X-ray on his jaw at Wembley Stadium after sustaining an injury in the first half of the Three Lions' Euro 2012 warm-up match against Belgium, raising doubts over his participation in the tournament.
The Chelsea defender was replaced by Joleon Lescott after colliding heavily with team-mate Joe Hart following a push from Belgium's Dries Mertens in the 17th minute. Cahill was substituted immediately and subsequently underwent an X-ray on his jaw to establish the severity of the injury.
Manager Roy Hodgson confirmed the news in the post-match press conference: "Cahill [is] having a CT scan as we speak... if he has fractured jaw, which is a distinct possibility, we [will] lose him for Poland."
Hodgson fears Cahill could miss Euro 2012
"I don’t think I’ll have the result of that for a couple of hours. If he hasn’t fractured it, he will be okay to go."
Mertens' foul caused the collision and Hodgson was unimpressed with the incident adding: "I wasn't too happy about it. Those nudges, if you've been a goalkeeper of defender, you take very unkindly to that kind of challenge. "He got a yellow card for it but the consequences got be a lot more serious for us."
England went on to win the match 1-0 courtesy of a first-half goal from Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, meaning Hodgson has now won both of his first two games since taking the reins of the national side.
However, the injury to Cahill will concern the former Liverpool manager who has already lost John Ruddy, Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard from his original Euro 2012 squad due to injury.
