Wins for City,Arsenal..Chelsea,United go down

Arsenal ease past 10-men tottenham after a moment of madness from x-arsenal forward Adebayor who scored the first goal for tottenham was handed a red card ..Tottenham struggled to cope with the numerical disadvantage thereafter and it only took a few minutes for Per Mertesacker to equalise.
Lukas Podolski's strike, and Olivier Giroud's fifth goal in his last five games gave Arsenal a comfortable two-goal cushion by half-time.
Tottenham fared slightly better in the second half, but their only reward came through a Gareth Bale consolation after Cazorla killed the contest.
To add insult to injury Theo Walcott grabbed a deserved goal in injury time to make the score the same as the 5-2 win that Arsenal used as a springboard for their Champions League assault last season.
while Manchester City recorded a comfortable win, easing past Aston villa by 5-0.. The Barclays Premier League champions went ahead through David Silva at the Etihad Stadium, later Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez each struck twice
Norwich stun United as they continued their revival with a 1-0 win which blew the chance for united to go back on top of the Premier League table.A header on the hour by Norwich winger Anthony Pilkington -- a former United trainee -- ended up consigning Alex Ferguson's side to their third defeat of the season after only 12 matches.
Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo had a miserable return to Hawthorns on Saturday as his side fell to a 2-1 Barclays Premier League defeat to West Brom...Nigerian international Peter Odemwingie headed home a cross from Shane Long whose opening goal had been cancelled out by Eden Hazard.
Elsewhere Transfer speculated Suarez proved just how valuable he is to Liverpool with two goals and an assist to help secure a 3-0 win over Wigan - only the Reds' second at home this season..The Uruguay international struck twice in nine second-half minutes and also played a part in the third which saw Jose Enrique score his first goal for the club.

A perfect revenge taken by Chelsea FC

It was a day of football action and thrills of spectator to watch 9 goal drama in Stamford Bridge as the Blues cruised to a 5-4 victory over the Manchester Reds as a perfect revenge to their Sunday night controversial defeat..

Ramires scoring the winner past Lindegaard

Daniel Sturridge and Ramires struck in extra time to send Chelsea into the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup. Manchester United's young centre-half, Scott Wootton, had defended well for so long but his inexperience was eventually found out. Wootton fouled Ramires with seconds of normal time remaining, gifting Eden Hazard the chance to make it 3-3 from the spot. The Belgian duly delivered.

Then Wootton's poor header allowed Sturridge to run through and score in the first half of extra time, with Ramires rounding goalkeeper Ander Lindergaard to add gloss to the scoreline with a fifth. This was a night of occasional off-field tension at the Bridge, with a pitch invader, a couple of fireworks and United fans teasing their hosts about their current issues with the referee, Mark Clattenburg.

Suspensions had ruled out Fernando Torres, John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic yet there was still Petr Cech, Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Juan Mata in the line-up. Nani had a free-kick held by Cech. Chelsea's keeper then saved from Danny Welbeck following good work by Ryan Giggs and Anderson, whose juggling skills to create a yard of space were a treat to behold.
United were threatening on the break but their first-half goals came from mistakes, initially and surprisingly from Cech after 22 minutes. Cech stroked his goal-kick straight out to Romeu, always a dangerous move as United had been pressing hard, fast and high. Anderson was swiftly on to Romeu, nicking the ball into the path of Giggs with the goal exposed.
Cech hurriedly tried to scramble across, but Giggs was moving with clinical intent. One touch teed the ball up. Giggs then looked up to check how far Cech had managed to get back across. Not enough. Giggs' second touch with his left foot sent the ball arrowing between the despairing Cech and the keeper's right-hand upright. Frustration briefly flowed through Chelsea.
Their fans were furious that the referee, Lee Mason, cautioned Mikel and Romeu for fouls but not Rafael for bringing down Lucas Piazon, even Alexander Buttner for catching Moses for the Chelsea penalty after the half-hour mark. It was a clear penalty, swiftly despatched by Luiz, although Lindegaard got close.
Chelsea fans were then treated to the bad side of Luiz, the lax side. With four minutes remaining to half-time, the Brazilian lost the ball in midfield and United exploited such largesse. His compatriot, Anderson, played a delightful ball through to release Hernandez, who placed his shot unerringly past Cech.
Chelsea were soon level early in the second half, following a spell of pressure. Mata had just released Sturridge, whose scampering journey towards goal was ended only by a superb tackled from Rafael. Chelsea continued to press. From a Mata corner, Cahill rose powerfully and sent the ball flying goalwards.
Rafael, standing inside the goal, cleared it but the assistant referee correctly signalled it had crossed the line. United simply shrugged off their frustration at losing the lead by scoring a wonderful third. Hernandez was lurking around the box but eventually turned away and found Nani. Oft criticised for his final ball, Nani was magnificent here, moving in a blur through blue shirts, exchanging passes with Anderson before dinking the ball past Cech.
In a game that flowed between the boxes, Moses should have equalised from Eden Hazard's cross but headed over. Cesar Azpilicueta then wasted a marvellous Mata ball, heading well over. "Time to blame the referee," chanted the United fans as their Chelsea counterparts sighed. The home supporters were then up in arms when Mata's cross hit Michael Keane's hand. With Hazard and Oscar on, Chelsea attacked in waves.
Moses and Ryan Bertrand were stretching United but still they refused to yield. Wootton blundered again eight minutes into extra time, his ill-considered attempt at a header back to Lindegaard allowing Sturridge the chance to run through and make it 4-3 to Chelsea. Nani and Oscar then squared up, hardly a battle of the heavyweights, before a touch of controversy invaded proceedings.
Moses should have killed the game when put clear by Sturridge but Ramires finally did after unselfish work by Hazard.
That was fortunate as Azpilicueta knocked over Hernandez in the final minute and Giggs made it 5-4 from the spot.
But the final word went to Hazard, who hit the post, again with the last kick.

Nadal, Unstoppable at Roland Garros

Paris: Rafael Nadal has caused so many others sleepless nights at Roland Garros. This time, though, it was his turn to do all the tossing and turning.

The bad weather. The unpredictable bounces. An opponent, Novak Djokovic, who couldn`t miss.

It all kept flashing through his mind on Sunday night. He would walk back on the court Monday for the resumption of the rain-delayed final, protecting a slim lead in the fourth set — giving him very little time to get a wobbling game back on the rails.

As it turns out, he lost sleep over nothing.

Nadal won six of the nine games played after the restart to close out a 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Djokovic, cementing his name in the history books with a record seventh French Open title, one more than Bjorn Borg. Nadal also prevented Djokovic from becoming the first man to win four straight majors since 1969, the same way Roger Federer got denied in 2006 and 2007.

Also against Nadal. Also on the clay

"My mental part, probably, on clay is one of the most important things," Nadal said. "Because you have to run, you have to suffer sometimes, you have to play with more tactics, because you have more time to think, to do things."

The end of this final played out the way seven of the past eight of them have at Roland Garros: Nadal sliding through the gritty court, reaching for balls nobody else could think of getting, punishing his opponent and forcing him into riskier shots in the vain hope of hitting a winner — Djokovic had 15 unforced errors during the fourth set

It was quite a different scene from the evening before, when rain turned the court into a sheet of near-mud, the tennis balls got saturated and every advantage belonged to Djokovic. He ran off eight straight games — who does that against Rafa on clay? — and Nadal was scowling, arguing with the umpires, asking to have the match suspended because Roland Garros was playing more like an unkempt public court after a storm than one of tennis` hallowed grounds on an historically important day.

The decision to stop, and not to resume later Sunday when the rain stopped and there was still light available, might have been the turning point in the match.

"I said, `Good, we got lucky. If we hadn`t stopped, we were going home,`" said Nadal`s uncle and coach, Toni Nadal.

Djokovic thought the same: "It`s unfortunate," he said, "because I was playing better and I was feeling really well on the court."

Djokovic needed one more win to join Don Budge and Rod Laver as the only men to win four straight major titles. Instead, he fell to 0-4 against Nadal at the French Open. He saw the task that lies ahead but also appreciated what he`d done.

"These matches make you feel like all the work that you put into it is worth it," he said. "You`re living for this moment to play finals of any Grand Slam, and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose."

After the win, the conversation quickly turned to whether Nadal is now the greatest clay court player ever. Nadal himself doesn`t like getting drawn into the "greatest this," ``greatest that" discussion. "I`m not the right one to say that," he said.

But others certainly will.

"He has to be now," said Mats Wilander, who won here three times and presented the trophy to Nadal.

"The players that he`s up against are better on clay. They`re more consistent than the ones Borg was up against. Playing Roger Federer in a bunch of finals. Now Novak, No. 1 in the world. Yes, absolutely. The seven here makes a big difference."

Those seven go along with eight at Monte Carlo, seven at Barcelona, six at Rome and an overall 254-19 record on the surface.

But while the numbers get gaudier, the tennis world moves on — to the grass at Wimbledon, which is where Djokovic started his string of three straight Grand Slam wins last year, beating Nadal in all three finals.

"I don`t have that chance to play in my favorite court the rest of the season," Nadal said. "That`s the thing. The calendar says we only have this period of time on clay, and I don`t have more chances to play on clay."

The rest of the tennis world should rejoice at that.

But if playing on clay was supposed to make the 2012 final a no-stress walk through the park at Roland Garros for Nadal, somebody forgot to give him that message.

Nadal said the first time he felt confident Monday, in the hours before the final act played out, was three minutes before he walked on the court.

"Because for the rest of the time I was a little bit too nervous, more nervous than usual, probably, for the situation," he said.

Kagawa set to shine at RED DEVILS.!

Kagawa set to shine at RED DEVILS.!

Japan's Shinji Kagawa was strongly backed to make an impact for Manchester United on the field as well as off it Wednesday as he prepared to become the English Premier League's most expensive Asian player.
Kagawa's Japan team-mates said the 23-year-old deserved his move to the English giants, while experts said the versatile attacking midfielder would be an important asset for United -- and not just for his marketing potential.
"Shinji deserves to be playing for a top club. He belongs," said fellow Japan international Keisuke Honda, who plays for CSKA Moscow. "I hope he does well."
Kagawa has caught the eye with 21 goals in 49 appearances over two seasons for Borussia Dortmund -- who won the German league and cup double this year -- as well as a hatful of assists.
The lively, right-sided player, who can play behind the main striker or on the left or right, and is also blessed with defensive awareness, is considered an important acquisition as United update their team.
The 19-time English champions lost their Premier League title to neighbours Manchester City this season, and floundered in Europe. Meanwhile old-stagers Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Park Ji-Sung are in the twilight of their careers.
On Tuesday, United said they had agreed terms for Kagawa, pending a medical and visa clearance. The deal is expected to cost around £12 million ($18.4 million), dwarfing the figure United paid for Park in 2005.
Fresh-faced Kagawa is now set to become the Premier League's biggest Asian signing and the most prominent player ever from Japan, eclipsing Hidetoshi Nakata who starred in Serie A a decade ago.
But he cut a reluctant figure when cornered by media in Saitama, where Japan are preparing to face Jordan on Friday.
"I haven't put pen to paper yet," Kagawa said, according to Kyodo news agency. "We still have two more games to play, and the entire team is focused on these qualifiers.
"I'll talk about all of this once I'm done here. I hope people will understand."
Asian newspapers splashed with the news on Wednesday, with Singapore's New Paper calling Kagawa the "real deal".
"What (Manchester United) need is a player who can change the pace of attack with ingenuity and accelerate the attack. That may be why they acquired Kagawa," said Japan's Nikkei business daily.
"Kagawa may well back up (striker Wayne) Rooney effectively. And he may well step up himself with the help of the sophisticated Rooney."
Press coverage in England was also positive, although the mass-market Daily Mail dubbed him "Shinji Kaga-who?" and said fans would be hoping for higher-profile signings.
However, few backed the theory that Kagawa had been brought in by United, recently rated as the world's most popular club, simply to sell shirts and merchandise in Asia.
"Kagawa meets the club's need to find a player who can feed decisive passes to England forward Rooney and organise their midfield," said a commentary in Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper.
"At present, Kagawa may be positioned as a 'quasi-regular'. But there is no doubt that Kagawa will be a type of player needed by Manchester United."
Team-mates were also in no doubt about Kagawa's ability to find his feet at Old Trafford, despite an indifferent season for Asian players in the Premier League.
"Kagawa can keep the ball in the smallest of spaces and is a quick decision-maker," Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi told Kyodo News. "He can play there (Manchester United) for sure.
"He's Japan's number 10, and I think he'll be able to perform even at a glamorous side like Manchester United."
Even for Japanese captain Makoto Hasebe, 28, Kagawa's move was the stuff of fiction and childhood day-dreams.
"For a player of my generation, moving to a big club is just a story in a manga comic," said Hasebe, who plays for VfL Wolfsburg in Germany. "I think children of today may feel like becoming another Shinji."

FIFA new rankings.!

Argentina climbed two places to seventh while Brazil (5th) and England (6th) also moved up one spot.
Portugal were the big fallers, plummeting from fifth following a dismal start to the year in which they have failed to win in three matches, scoring just one goal.

Why Federer yelled at the crowd?

French Open: Why Federer yelled at the crowd?

Paris: The crowd at Roland Garros on Monday got a taste of Roger Federer’s anger during his quarterfinal match against Juan Martin Del Potro.

Federer was two points down during the second set tiebreak after hitting one into the nets when he yelled at the crowd, asking them to “shut up”.

The Swiss apparently got infuriated due to the unnecessary noise the crowd was making that could’ve been affecting his concentration.

"That`s about as angry as you`ve ever seen Federer," John McEnroe was quoted as saying in reports.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion dropped the set but came back to claim the next three, reaching his 31st Grand Slam semifinal.

Rafael Nadal edges closer to a seventh title with easy win over Juan Monaco

Rafael Nadal clearly set out his intentions to win a seventh French Open title as he brushed aside Juan Monaco 6-2 6-0 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

The second seed was detained for only one hour and 46 minutes on Court Suzanne Lenglen as he set up a clash with fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro, a straight-sets conqueror of Janko Tipsarevic.
Argentinian Monaco battled hard in the first set but was blown away thereafter as Nadal stepped up a gear, winning 17 games in succession with a clinical display.
Nadal broke in the fifth game of the match and again in a magnificent next game on Monaco's serve.
Monaco responded to Nadal's shot through his own legs with a delicate drop-volley winner to reach 30-30 but Nadal forced break point in another stunning rally, pinning his opponent in the corner with a forehand down the line before making two volleys to win the point.
He converted and duly served out the set, taking his third set point with a routine overhead.

An early break followed in the second set and Monaco squandered the chance to immediately respond, failing on two break points in the next game.
That was as close as he got in the remainder of the match, with Nadal breaking twice more and then wrapping up the set with a love service game.
An emphatic overhead wrapped up a break in the opening game of the third as Nadal extended his winning run to 12 successive games and there was no let-up, the Spaniard opening up a 4-0 lead with his South American opponent looking all at sea and showing his frustration.
He celebrated ironically when Nadal sent a forehand long in the next game but was broken to 15 and was soon put out of his misery.

Friendly: Brazil 0-2 Mexico

Premier League duo Giovani Dos Santos and Javier Hernandez led Mexico to a friendly win over Brazil at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

It was the second straight game in which Mexico's top two forwards each scored, indicating the Mexican attack is in top form at the right time.
Mexico play Guyana on Friday to open the semifinal round of World Cup qualifying in the CONCACAF region.

'This game served us well in our plans for qualifying,' Mexico coach Jose Manuel de la Torre said.
'We killed two birds with one stone in beating a strong opponent and preparing ourselves for qualifying.'
Dos Santos opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on an unlikely conversion from a difficult angle near the sideline. The Tottenham forward chipped the ball from the left side of the box into the upper corner of the right side, beating goalkeeper Rafael Cabral, who was making his second start for Brazil.

Brazil coach Mano Menezes dismissed the shot as a 'fortunate' strike.
'Giovani was crossing it into the box and scored,' Menezes said.
Ten minutes later, Dos Santos again was in the middle of the action. Brazilian defender Juan Jesus took him down inside the box, a clumsy foul because Dos Santos' back was to the goal. On the penalty kick, Cabral guessed correctly, but Manchester United striker Hernandez's strike found the net.

Brazil fielded a young squad of under-23 players in preparation for the upcoming Olympics in London. This particular squad was in just its third game together and found itself trailing for the first time.
'In the first half, we needed more calm,' Menezes said. 'When it was 0-0, we needed to slow down and show more patience. But this is normal with young players.'

MS Dhoni gives Sachin Tendulkar thumbs-up for RS innings

As Sachin Tendulkar is about to take oath as Rajya Sabha member, Mahendra Singh Dhoni hopes India’s batting maestro will be as successful in the Parliament as he was on the cricket field.
"I would like to wish him all the best. He has been contributing to cricket. He has done well in every field. This (Rajya Sabha) is a new avenue for him and I am sure he will do well and contribute there too,” Dhoni, who is also the honorary Lieutenant Colonel of army, said.
Meanwhile, Dhoni visited the Kaman post, the last Indian army post on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of North Kashmir. “Soon after his arrival at the Srinagar airport, he was transported by a military helicopter to the forward border outpost of Kaman at Uri, where he interacted with the troops,” said Lieutenant Colonel JS Brar, defence spokesperson at Srinagar.
On his return to Baramulla from Uri, Dhoni appreciated Kashmir’s bewitching beauty. A defence spokesman said that Dhoni called the place a heaven and the crown of India.
At Baramulla, he was received by Major GeneralBipin Rawat, the General Officer Commanding of the Dagger Division. Thereafter, he interacted with the troops of the Baramulla Garrison at the Thimayya Hall and thanked them for keeping the country secure.
“He also met the players who had participated in the Kashmir Premier League. He appreciated their efforts and assured them of all possible help,” said Lt Col Brar.

Rodgers wants to lure Sigurdsson to Anfield

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed his intention to make Gylfi Sigurdsson his first Liverpool signing after the midfielder's move to Swansea City stalled.
Sigurdsson was heading to the Liberty Stadium prior to Rodgers's appointment at Anfield, but the change in circumstances appears to have scuppered the deal. A pounds 6.8?million fee was agreed between Swansea and Hoffenheim while Rodgers was still in charge, and personal terms were also negotiated with the 22 year-old.
But now the Northern Irishman has moved to Merseyside, Sigurdsson is destined to follow.
While Rodgers fully respects Swansea's wish to conclude a deal, he says he feels compelled to pursue a player whose career has flourished under his charge.
"If he comes onto the market, I have to be interested," explained Rodgers. "His initial chat has to be with Swansea, because he had a good period there.
"I said when I had the chat with the chairman (Huw Jenkins) the other day, when I told him I was going to go to Liverpool, that Gylfi came to Swansea because I was there as manager.
"I said to Huw if I speak to the kid I'll tell him to make sure he certainly comes down and speaks to the new Swansea manager, whoever that is, and that if he's still not comfortable with that, he's in the marketplace then - and then I have to look at him."
Rodgers, meanwhile, has paid tribute to the roles his father and grandfather played in him becoming Liverpool manager.
"He was my hero. He'd be very proud," said Rodgers of his father, who died last year. "Both my mum and dad passed away in a short period of time and I'm representing them.
"My grandfather was a Liverpool supporter. That's where it started for me. I was born in 1973 and the late 70s I sat down with both him and my father. That was the emotional attachment to be here as well as the footballing challenge. They loved great football. My dad was a big lover of Johan Cruyff so that's where one of my influences came from.
"My biggest influence were my parents. I've learnt from many people - good and bad - but my parents taught me the value of working hard. It's an obligation to work hard, not a choice.
"My father brought me up that way and I was the one that always created rather than waited. I went out there and travelled to Spain, Holland and Germany to travel right the way through. It's about having the courage and bravery to expose yourself to that."
Rodgers makes no attempt to hide how he wants Liverpool to play, or what formation he intends to impose. His philosophy appears to be if he can make good players fit the system, opponents will know what's coming but won't get enough of the ball to undermine it.
"They say the best football coaches and managers are the best thieves so you look to pick up bits and pieces from everyone," he said. "Brendan Rodgers might not sound as good as someone from Italy or Spain. British managers have often been overlooked as not being impressive. I'm very proud that people here can see my vision, philosophy and work. I know Liverpool spoke to a number of European coaches but they went with an Irishman.
"What is new about my appointment is a British manager getting a job like this. When I started in management I wanted to show that British managers can get teams to play the way continental teams do, and that we have players who can adapt to that. My style is a fusion.
"My philosophy is simple - I'm here to educate. I'm not here to train. You train dogs, you don't train players. Working with Jose Mourinho gave me great confidence. He saw something in me, and being at Chelsea gave me the opportunity to work with big players. It was a great experience, because I was there for the biggest year in Chelsea's history.
"Jose and I keep in contact on a weekly basis, and I've got great respect for him. But I'm very much my own man."
